I went to La Shop to check out my student Zander's band (pictured above). They played a six song set of originals and covers. Zander played really well. The crowd definately enjoyed their energetic, Ska stylings. Check out all the photos from the night here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of pictures of Zander's band because I gave my camera to someone else during their set. At the last minute, Zander asked me if I would operate their video camera. When I get a copy, I will post some audio on the music page...
After The Soundwiches, Mr. Hyde played. I was surprised to see one of my former students, Lucas, playing lead guitar in this band. They sounded great! The crowd really got into it. Lucas played some really nice guitar solos. They ended their set with a cool version of "Where is My Mind" by the Pixies.
The last band of the night was called Face Down. Now, it was my wife's turn to be surprised. Most, if not all of the members of the band are her students at CDM. Actually, I don't know who was more surprised, my wife or the members of Face Down. They played a raw, punk rock set that kept the audience on their feet. Overall, I thought the show was a success. There was a good turnout, all the bands played well and the audience had a great time. Oh, by the way, there was quite a bit of moshing as well!

A couple of weeks ago, Katie and Caroline asked me if I'd help them write a jingle for a school project they were working on. They recorded it themselves on a laptop. So here it is. It's pretty catchy, don't you think?

Wayne brought the video of his band's first show to his lesson today. I had asked him for it so I could post a song. So here it is... Papa So Mean playing "Gloria" by Van Morrison. Check it out here!

Today, instead of our regular lesson, Zander asked me if I'd work with his band. They are called The Soundwiches and they play ska. Zander(left), Sam G.(center) and Nic(right) played me some of the songs they will be performing next Friday, December 9th at La Shop. I gave them a few ideas and suggestions. Next friday, they will be joined by Sam T. on trumpet and Joj on drums. There are four other bands on the bill as well. For those interested, the address of La Shop is 2090 Moreau, suite 102 and it is close to the Prefontaine metro station. The doors open at 7:30 pm and admission is $8. See you there...
