Today Nicholas and I focused on chords and rhythm. After warming up and playing some scales, I jumped on the drums and we played through all of the chord progressions. Next, we worked on power chords. We jammed on a few different power chord progressions. After that, we worked on songs. We played "Good Riddance", which sounded great and we finished the verse for "Wake Me Up When September Ends". Then Nicholas asked if he could learn a song that he could play together with his Mom(she plays piano)so we started working on "Speed of Sound" by Coldplay.

This was Thomas's seventh lesson. He's doing really well. We started with the warm ups, rhythms and C scale. Then we played all the chord progressions. They sounded great. Lastly, we played some songs. Thomas memorized them! He played the intro to "Good Riddance" by Green Day and the first part of "Ode to Joy". Can't wait until lesson eight...

Allan's been on a big Chilli Peppers kick recently. He's been working on "Under the Bridge" and "Californication". You can listen to Allan playing the solo to "Californication" here. Today we started working on "Scar Tissue" and "My Friends". Allan's also working on the solo for "Something" by the Beatles. We ended the lesson by playing "The Man Who Sold the World" (see below).

Leah is one of my newer students. She's just getting back to playing guitar after having taken some time off. We've only had a few lessons together and already her fingers are back in shape. Her scales are sounding really good and her chords are coming along well. She's even learned a couple of songs. This week we worked on "Good Riddance" by Green Day, "Burn One Down" By Ben Harper and and I added the intro to "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley.

Thursday's at 4, I work with the Vanessa, Ali and Margaux. They are starting a band. Aside from all the basics, they are working on some original compositions. They are learning about bass parts, rhythm guitar parts and lead guitar parts. They're starting to sound pretty good. They haven't found a name yet, though...
