Wayne and his band, Papa So Mean, put on a great show this past weekend. First up was Wayne's singer Rick's other band called IQ Nil. They played a tight set of classic rock. Apparently they've been playing together for a long time, which you could could definitely tell. Wayne's band played an energetic set of blues and classic rock. This was the first time I'd seen them with their new bass player and keyboardist. The band sounded better than ever. Wayne played some rockin' solos on several songs and my other student Bill managed to pull off a nice version of "Engine Trouble" by Jack de keyzer, which is a real challenge. Great work, Bill! Then, there were The Wet Straps! It was the first time Allan, Elyse, Kira and Maya had ever played on stage in front of an audience. They rocked! They really played well. They played an all White Stripes set. Their friend Angie sang and she did an amazing job. My brother Doug filled in on drums at the last minute because their drummer couldn't make it (Thanks, Doug!). Not only did they sound great but they also got all decked out and looked great as well. I was actually up there with them and I had a blast. Check out the last song of their set, "Hotel Yorba". Thanks again Wayne for letting the Wet Straps play.
