This is Vanessa's brother Anthony. This was his fifth lesson. He's another lucky one with two teachers. Vanessa has been teaching him stuff as well. Today, we started with the warm up exercises then we played the C major scale, which was much improved. We added the E blues scale. Then we worked on chords. We added a few new ones like G and Cadd9 so Anthony could play "Good Riddance" by Green Day. After, we worked on his power chords. We added the chorus to "Basket Case" by Green Day. We finished by learning "Adam's Song" by Blink 182. It was a pretty packed hour.

Adam and I have been jamming on one of his original songs for the past few weeks. Last week, I suggested that we try to record it, so today we did! Adam recorded all the electric guitar parts in one hour and I added the rest. I really think it came out great. Press play and check it out!

Today was week three of our It Came From The Garage! rock band course. We have a completely new group of people this session. From left to right we've got Vince(guitar/bass), Phil (drums), Saskia (lead vocals), Katie (guitar/bass) and Vanessa ((guitar/bass). The band is starting to sound good already. We have a new addition to the teaching staff this session. I am working with Marla, who is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and teacher with over twenty years of experience in the music business. We will also be collaborating with Dave, who owns a recording studio called DNA. He will be giving recording courses that will happen in conjunction with our rock band courses. His students will record our band's demos. It's pretty exciting! As well, our yet to be named band will be featured at the next It Came From the Garage! show, which will take place on Friday, December 15th at the Royal Canadian Legion on Addington and de Maisonneuve in N.D.G.. More details to follow...

Brahm has been working on The solo for "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd for the last few weeks. Today, he was ready to record it. Before we recorded the solo, I asked Brahm to help me with the instrumental track by recording the background guitar part. Then we went for the solo. Brahm nailed it in two takes. Check it out, it sounds great!

For the last month or so, Jordi's been working on the solo from the Avenged Sevenfold song "Seize the Day". The solo has been improving steadily from class to class. Today, we recorded it at the song's full tempo. It sounds awesome! Great work Jordi. Have a listen for yourself (click on ">>" on the mp3 player to go to the next song). Next up, a classic Pink Floyd solo...

Wayne had his housewarming party last night. His band, Papa So Mean, played outside in his backyard. Unfortunately, I missed their first set. Their second set started with a warning by the cops to turn down and ended about halfway through with an angry neighbour shouting, throwing stuff at the band and trying to hop over the fence! It was pretty intense. In between, they did manage to play rockin' versions of Paper Thin, Gloria and Proud Mary. Now that's rock'n' roll!
